The conservation of the unique natural complex of Belovezhskaya Pushcha in the natural state.
The National Park was created to preserve the complex study of the benchmark and unique natural complexes and objects of the Belovezhsky virgin forest in the essential state, to conserve the biological and landscape diversity of the territory, the restoration of violated natural complexes and objects of special ecological, historical, cultural and aesthetic value, as well as their sustainable use in environmental, scientific, educational, recreational and other purposes (Regulations on the National Park "Belovezhskaya Pushcha ", approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 46, 27.09.2004). This is the main goal of the national park activities.
The main tasks of the activities of the SNPI "NP" Belovezhskaya Pushcha" are:
- preservation of the entire unique natural complex in the natural state, the genetic fund of living organisms (plants and animals) which are characteristic of Belovezhskaya Pushcha and typical of the South-Western region of the Republic of Belarus;
- creation of stable natural conditions for ecosystem production in general and biological species separately;
- preservation of historical and cultural heritage;
- conservation and restoration of the bison population, as well as other valuable, rare and endangered species of the animal and plant world of the given territory;
- studying the essential course of natural processes occurring in the national park complexes, its biological diversity;
- organization and development of tourism and recreational activities;
- maintaining an integrated economy based on traditional methods and advanced achievements in natural resources conservation.
A comprehensive management plan for the Belovezhskaya Pushcha national park has been developed for the successful implementation of the tasks above, designed for 2009-2018. All the activities of this Plan are grouped into 6 main areas:
Preservation of the natural heritage of Belovezhskaya Pushcha in its natural form;
Development of recreational and tourist activities in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha region on a sustainable basis;
Development of scientific research of common forest and swamp ecosystems and their components;
Formation of ecological consciousness and careful attitude to nature among partners, including local residents and visitors of the National Park;
Improvement of methods for the sustainable resource usage of the Belovezhskaya Pushcha ecosystems and their implementation in practice in the interests of the local population.
