Vygonoshchansky forest and bog nature complex, located in the watershed territory of the Black sea and the Baltic Sea basins, is one of the largest in Europe, which has survived to the present day in the natural state. It is an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area, and it has a status of a wetland of European importance according to the Ramsar Convention. The area of swamps and green woods with dissemination of lakes, upland ranges and islands expands here over more than 70 km from west to east and over 40 km from north to south.

The main part of the FHF “Vygonovskoe” is occupied with sedge and moss lowland and transition mosses, covered with birch, black alder and pine forests. From time to time broad-leaved oak groves, hornbeam, elm, maple forests, linden groves can be met on the upland hills and ranges, and low-productivity pine forests with almost dwarf trees – in the upland swamps. Their age can reach more than 300 years with a trunk height of just 10-15 meters.

Roughly estimated more than 700 species of vascular plants grow on the territory of FHF “Vygonovskoe”. The faunal diversity is represented with 58 mammal species, 255 species of birds, 7 species of reptiles, 12 species of amphibians, more than 30 species of fish. Among them about two dozen of plant species and 45 fauna species are included into the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus.

Elk, wild boar, deer, roe are common among hoofed in these forests. Among predators – wolf, raccoon dog, vixen, and among wildfowl – wood grouse and black grouse. You can often meet beaver, otter, mink, muskrat near ponds. The farm lands are an ideal place for wetland wildfowl (wild ducks, pochards, snipes etc.)

Vygonoshchanskoe and Bobrovichskoe lakes are the decoration of the forest hunting farm. They are the remains of so-called “Yaseldinskoye Sea” – the largest water area, which is about 800 thousand sq.km., formed with the melting of a glacier. The basin disappeared in consequence of water outflow after the break of the Pripyat riverbed to Dnieper, and only single lakes remained of it.

Vygonoshchanskoe lake, which area is 26 sq.km., is the third natural water body of Polessie in terms of surface area. It is located at the watershed of the river Shchara and Yaselda (the basins of Neman and Dnieper). Having quite a large size the lake is shallow – average depth is 1,2 m, maximum depth – 2,3 m.
