Two undergraduates from the European Union arrived to perform diploma works devoted to the ecology of ungulates in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha. Photographing data of the camera traps located in the national park, collected in the period from 2013 to 2017, served as the basis for the performance of the works.
Now, students are conducting a biotope research in the areas of camera traps locations. A student from Germany, Heinen Henry Matthias, will study the identified biotopic preferences of various types of ungulates in different year seasons. A student from England, El Haddad Samara Patricia, will study the influence of various types of economic activity on relations in the “ungulates-predators” system.
In the administration of the national park, students have already made presentations of their research topics. Experts of the scientific and forestry departments, having heard their speeches, positively estimated serious and creative approach to the implementation of diploma works. Also, the students were given a number of guidelines, some organizational issues were resolved.
Scientific research is carried out within the framework of an environmental project for the Belovezhskaya Pushcha, implemented by the National Park “Belovezhskaya Pushcha”, APB-BirdLife Belarus and the Frankfurt Zoological Society. The results of the work wil be published in the collection of scientific researchers of the national park, as well as used in the further planning of the protection and management of natural complexes.
